Why are stock market quotes delayed 15+ minutes on the free internet and cable TV? It seems unreasonable. Everyone (the American public) was encouraged to invest in the stock market over the last 10+ years. Where is the info? In the computer age, why is it delayed? Why do we have to subscribe (and pay) to obtain real-time data?

Why are the stock market quotes delayed by 20 mins. online? When looking online at stock quotes, I always noticed the disclaimer at the bottom of the page that stated how the quotes are delayed by 20 mins. Why is that?

How can I obtain pre-market and after hours market stock quotes without a delay? I am already aware of the stock quotes one can get from Yahoo.com, Google.com, nasdaq.com, etc. but they all have a 10 to 15 minute delay. The most important thing for me is to have the quote a close to real time as possible. I have Ameritrade and I can also make trades after hours. Ameritrade does not allow me to see quotes after hours. Does Fidelity have this feature? If I want to make a trade, I'd like to know what the current price is without the 15 minute delay.

I want to know how to download an XML data feed of stock market data (including Level 2 quotes) at my request. I am looking for information on downloading level 2 quotes in XML format at my request. Does anyone know of a site that will allow me to do this at a cheap/reasonable/free price? Ameritrade (my current account) only allows you to view information for one stock at any given time, and is based on a web page.
